How To Baby Proof the House

Here is an easy guide that will help you in baby proofing your house in Barrie:

Stairways

  • Do not leave any object on the staircase, as you might trip on it while carrying the baby.
  • If you have stairways in your house, then you should install gates at the bottom and the top of the house as soon as your child starts to crawl.
  • It is advised that you don’t leave young children unattended near the stairs as some of them try to climb over the gate.
  • Make sure that the safety bar latch of the door is not within the child’s reach.

Fireplace

  • Get a hearth cover if you have a toddler at home because that will prevent the child from falling into the fireplace.

Electricity

  • Get your exposed outlets covered as a lot of children tend to poke their fingers in the socket.
  • Make sure that all electric items and cords are out the reach of the child.

Appliances

  • Turn the handles of pots and pans away from the counter as a lot of children tend to reach for it.
  • Always cook the food in the back burner as that is out of a child’s reach.
  • Do not allow the child in the kitchen when you are cooking food.
  • Do not leave a pan unattended in the kitchen if your baby is awake.

Windows

  • Get window guards so that they can’t open more than six to seven inches.
  • Tie the cords of the blinds of the windows so that your child doesn’t get hurt.
  • Ideally, you should not have any furniture near the window because a lot of times children climb over to get to the window.

Doors

  • If you have French doors or low windows, then get safety glass installed so that it doesn’t shatter.
  • If you have sliding glass doors, then it is important that you install decals so that your child does not run into them.
  • Never place your child’s cot, chair, or crib near a door or a window.

Furniture and Accessories

  • Place unstable furniture away from your child’s reach.
  • If you have furniture with sharp edges, then it is advised that you don’t leave your child unsupervised.
  • Make sure that tall pieces of furniture are firmly installed because a child can pull it down and get seriously hurt.
  • All the drawers should be closed and locked so that a child doesn’t hurt their fingers.

Bathroom

  • Always check the temperature of the water before bathing your baby.
  • Never leave the floor wet as a child can slip and get hurt.

According to several experts, one great way of baby proofing the house is to get down at their level and then consider the things from their eye level. Make sure that you keep every harmful thing away from their reach and install a baby monitor in their room. Hopefully, these tips will help you out in baby proofing your house. Good luck!
