Being organized can actually save you a lot of time in the future, and utilizing this quality when packing in order to move to a new house is actually quite beneficial. If you do not want to create more troubles for yourself in an already stressful situation, then get organized! It is really not all that difficult. One of the ways to show off your organizational skills while moving to a new place is by packing and labeling your moving boxes. This way, you will know exactly what things are present in the box, how it should be carried, and when you should open it.
Color Representation
Use colorful markers when you are numbering the boxes. So, let us say if box 1 and 2 contain kitchen appliances, use the same color to write down their number. This way, you will know which boxes contain similar items. Also, rather than opening each box, one after another, to find a specific item, you will further know which box to open first. For this, assign a color to each room. Moreover, if you want the movers to put the boxes in their designated rooms, you can attach a similar colored paper in each room to help them out.
Number the Boxes
By numbering the boxes, you will get an idea of how many boxes there are in total. This will also help you in keeping a check on them. While moving, it is normal to misplace things. Therefore, by numbering them, you will know exactly how many of them are missing, and which ones those were.
Level of Priority
The arrangement of boxes by the level of priority; high, medium, and low, will tell you the order of unpacking. The box with high priority needs to be opened first, medium means you can wait a day or so to open it, and lastly, low means you can take as much time as you want with it.
Other Standard Symbols
Symbols such as handle with care, keep dry, this side up, and fragile could really save you a fortune. This will let the movers know the right way to carry the boxes, and it will prevent breakage of things inside the box.
Other than labeling the boxes, you must also pack them the right way, or else, you might end of damaging things present inside. Here is how you should go about packing the boxes.
Size of the Box
Most of the time, people make the mistake of putting heavier items in bigger boxes, which creates difficulty for the movers, as they are not able to carry them. The right way to solve this problem is to pack heavier items in smaller boxes and lighter items in bigger boxes. This will reduce the probability of breakage, and will make the work easier.
Tape the Right Way
You not only have to seal the top and the bottom of the box, but also tape the bottom and top edges twice or even thrice. This is because these areas have greater pressure applied on them, and taping them will prevent tearing of the boxes.
Arranging of the Items
To avoid damaging lighter items, put the heavier things in the box first, and follow that with lighter items.
