Style and function come together in today’s modern laundry rooms. Home developers recognize that main floor laundry continues to top many potential home buyers wish lists and it is a common feature seen in new home construction. Just because you don’t have main floor laundry doesn’t mean your laundry room needs to suffer in the area of style and function. With so many hours spent doing laundry, this is one area of the home that many homeowners are choosing to invest a little tender, loving care to update it to reflect your design aesthetic.
5 Steps to Creating a Stylish and Functional Laundry Room
1. Colour: Choose your colour palette, are you drawn to warm or cool colours?
If you have a main floor laundry room, pick a colour that complements the rest of your main floor colour choices. For basement laundry rooms with limited or no natural light, consider a lighter shade to make the room feel more airy and bright.
For spaces that allow it, many homeowners are replacing their white plastic laundry tubs with stainless steel sink and faucet combinations built into a vanity. Pressurized faucets with a variety of settings make it easier than ever with pre-washing stains before they set. The vanity gives additional storage space and provides a completed look.
Overhead cabinets are a popular choice for homeowners and allow you adequate storage space while keeping things out of sight. Open shelving is an excellent option for more decorative storage items (like a jar to catch all of that loose change and other items that are rolling around in pockets).
